In the begging of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic rolled towards Europe inexorably, affecting local communities. In many other instances, local brewers stepped-up with creative initiatives, aimed at supporting their regions and countries. Two of such initiatives took place in Hungary.

Supporting local communities

Dreher Sörgyárak is one of the oldest establishments in Kőbánya, Hungary. Seeing the support needed for its local community, Dreher brewery donated HUF 10,000,000 to the Municipality of Kőbánya. This sum was contributed to municipality-level efforts to control the coronavirus epidemic, including purchase of protective equipment which was becoming more scarce during the early stages of the pandemic, driving the costs up.

“For the past 165 years, Dreher’s name and history have been intertwined with Kőbánya. The company and the district could count on each other for better or worse. Our relationship will continue to be close in 2020 in this spirit. It feels good to experience the mutual care for each other between the community and our local companies. Working together is especially valuable in the current situation.” – thanked Róbert Antal D. Kovács, Mayor of Kőbánya, Hungary.

The Municipality of Kőbánya imposed preventative measures at an early stage of the outbreak. In line with nation-wide measures, municipality immediately limited the size of community meetings. Nurseries, kindergartens, cultural and sports facilities,  playgrounds, dog runners, outdoor fitness parks were all closed.

“It is extremely important for Dreher to continue working together for the future of Kőbánya, supporting the local community in difficult times. A core part of our company culture is that we have a responsibility not only to our employees but also to the local community.” – emphasised Gábor Békefi, Dreher’s CEO.

“Together at home” – Groupama Football Arena

Dreher Sörgyárak worked with Ferencvárosi Torna Club and Lagardère Sports Hungary Kft., and Penny-Market Kft., along with several sponsors of the Groupama Football Arena’s team supported fans over the age of 65 who are particularly vulnerable to the virus.

The common goal during this initiative was to keep people safe at home, reducing the number of unnecessary contacts. Gift packages for senior season ticket holders with products, offered by Dreher and other partners, were offered. They included essential health products, packages of food and non-alcoholic Dreher 24 Red Bee, and also books to help their fans pass the time while at home.
