All over Europe the sound of clinking of glasses, chatter of friends and music or sport was replaced by shutters rolling and stools being stacked. The terraces fell silent and a sense of loss has moved in. Forced closures, lockdowns and restrictions caused by the response to COVID 19, while understandable and necessary to stop the spread, have hurt hospitality venues badly. Some bars and pubs have already disappeared and there is a growing fear that many might not survive 2021.
Lost connections
For individual beer lovers like you, like us, the situation has not been easy either since march 2020.
We’ve lost connection to aspects of life that were so important – like trying a new beer in your favourite pub, meeting to talk with friends, catching up with family and locals.
For now, to protect ourselves and each other, we check in from home. Video calls and virtual gatherings have become the norm. But they will never replace real life moments that we share with each other. Our pubs and bars are the places we socialise, important meeting places at the heart of our communities, so we owe it to ourselves and to them, to support them in any way we can .
Reconnection is within reach
There is hope! Vaccination has started globally, and the end game is in sight. We must of course remain vigilant, cautious, and caring, otherwise dreams of reconnection will be further away than we think.
To make sure that the places and people who serve us will be there to do so when we are ready to return, the European beer community is coming together to show support and solidarity for the hospitality sector. So we can #RECONNECT when the time is right.
