The European Commission has written to The Brewers of Europe recognising the severe impact that COVID has had on the hospitality and beer sector across the Union, definitively shutting down many establishments and threatening the very existence of hundreds of thousands of SMEs. In the letter the European Commission highlights the opportunity within the EU’s VAT Directives for Member States to apply targeted reductions on VAT for food and drinks, including beer, served in the hospitality sector.
